“Folk Memories in Autumn was composed for David Nicholson and Karen Vaughan who premiered it at The Third Eye Centre, Glasgow, on 10.11.1978. In 2001 he recorded it, with Eluned Pierce (harp), on the CD "Music from the North Lands". In the intervening period I created several different versions of the music, e.g. for two guitars: for flute, viola and guitar; and for flute, viola and marimba. It sparked off a series, with Folk Memories in Summer being composed (for Anne Chaurand, solo guitar) and similar works on Spring and Winter being planned. The title of the CD is apt as the slow melody of the flute part started life as music for an educational TV documentary "Let's See Orkney" during scenes of landscape and ancient history amid some mysterious beachcombing finds. It was screened on BBC 1?Scotland in November, 1978, with myself performing flute.”
