Hilary Brooks: Josephine Baker [download]

£5.50

For two pianos. From the PianoPiano project, a collection evoking the spirit of ten remarkable women.

Computer typeset score (22p) saved as pdf for immediate download.

An American-born singer, dancer and actress. A superstar and political icon : Josephine Baker was the first African-American female to star in a major motion picture, Zouzou, in 1934.

In 1963, she was the only woman invited to speak at the side of Dr. Martin Luther King at the March on Washington for Freedom & Jobs. She spent most of her working life in France – perhaps too outrageous for American sensibilities - Josephine was awarded the Croix de Guerre for services to the allies in the 2nd WW. She was a spy, smuggling secrets out of France written in invisible ink on her sheet music.

She was literally... An American In Paris.

Recording available on CD.
